Checklist for Enabling the Demand Manager Application

Note: Your Staff Manager configuration may not include this optional application. To add this application to your configuration, contact your Clinical Consultant or Client Advocate.

While most data in Demand Manager is designed for viewing, it is expected that employees (primarily RNs) review and update patient departure and discharge date and times as required using the Administer Patient Pattern window. Access to Demand views is linked to user security, which you set in either Staff Manager Administrator or Staff Manager Client.

First: Steps in Staff Manager Administrator

Enterprise Administrators automatically have read and write access to Demand Manager. You must update other security groups, however, for them to access Demand Manager.

  1. Open Staff Manager Administrator.
  2. Double-click a profile in the Profiles dialog box. This opens the Edit Profile dialog box.
  3. Click the Group Permissions tab.
  4. Click a group in the left pane to select it.
  5. Click Set Permissions. This opens the Set Interface Permissions dialog box.
  6. Select Demand Data.
  7. Select the access level you want.
    1. Selecting None means that your selected security group has no access to demand data.
    2. Selecting Read gives your selected security group read only access to demand data.
    3. Selecting Full gives your selected security group access to read and edit demand data.
  8. Select Patient Pattern Configuration.
  9. Select the access level you want.
    1. Selecting None means that your selected security group is not able to configure patient patterns.
    2. Selecting Read gives your selected security group read only access to patient pattern configuration data.
    3. Selecting Full gives your selected security group access to read and configure patient patterns.
  10. Select Demand Configuration to select it.
  11. Select the access level you want.
    1. Selecting None means that your selected security group is not able to configure Demand Manager location settings.
    2. Selecting Read gives your selected security group read only access to Demand Manager location settings.
    3. Selecting Full gives your selected security group access to read and configure Demand Manager location settings.
  12. Click OK to save your changes.

The following table describes in more detail how each setting affects security group access to Demand data.

Second: Steps in Staff Manager Client

You need to enable permissions for those employees who are working with Demand Manager and are in the Unassigned Users security group. Any employee who is responsible for entering patient departure and discharge dates or assigning Library patterns to patients must be in a security group with Full access to Demand data (in Staff Manager Administrator) or have Read and Write Access to Demand Data checked on the Permissions tab of the Employees dialog box (in Staff Manager Client).

  1. Open Staff Manager Client.
  2. From the Maintain menu, select Employee Info. This opens the Employees dialog box.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Select the check box for the access level you want.
    1. Read Access to Demand Data: Selecting this check box lets the employee see the Patient Pattern Management page, the Progress Pattern Library page, and the Administer Patient Progress Pattern window. Deselect this check box to prevent the employee from seeing these pages.
    2. Read & Write Access to Demand Data: Select this check box to let the employee view the Patient Pattern Management page; view and edit patient departure and discharge dates and times, library patterns, and care coordinators on the Administer Patient Pattern window; and view the Pattern Library page. Deselect the check box to prevent the employee from both seeing and editing these pages.
    3. Deselect both check boxes if the employee should not be able to read or edit Demand data.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.

The following table describes in more detail how each of setting affects employee access to Demand data.

Security Permissions and Demand Manager

In addition to permission settings in Staff Manager Administrator and Staff Manager Client, Demand Manager uses security information about each employee to determine which profiles and locations are available for that employee to select in the left pane of the Demand pages. Each employee automatically receives access to:

The Persist Manual Discharge Setting

When Cerner Clairvia Clinical Consultants implement Demand Manager, they set whether Demand Manager should update a patient's discharge date upon a transfer or new pattern assignment or to persist a manually updated discharge date for patients with location-based patterns. This setting is called Persist Manual Discharge. When this setting is disabled, manual discharges are not persisted when the patient transfers to another location. When the setting is enabled, any manual discharge persists across transfers, and new location-based pattern assignments.

To change the Persist Manual Discharge setting, contact your Clinical Consultant or Client Advocate.
