Understanding Device Services and Sending Messages

To send messages to staff members, your Staff Manager solution must be configured with the optional Assignment Manager application and CareAware iBus with Device Services. To add these applications to your solution, contact your Cerner Clairvia Clinical Consultant or Client Advocate.

You send messages from the Department Assign page or the Patient Assign page. When you have assigned devices to staff, you can also send messages to one caregiver or several caregivers at once. Finally, you can view previous messages on the Send Caregiver Message pop-up window.

Prerequisites

Once you have installed Assignment Manager and CareAware iBus with Device Services, you must complete the following steps before you can send messages to staff members.

  1. Configure Device Services using the iBus tab on the Demand Manager Facility Settings page.
  2. Assign devices to staff.

About the Load Only Devices for Providers in Partition Flag

Clients can adapt Assignment Manager to meet their needs. For example, some clients use Assignment Manager to assign all devices to providers. Other clients use a different solution. The Load Only Devices for Providers in Partition flag is for this second set of clients.

Note: You cannot change the Load Only Devices for Providers in Partition flag setting yourself. If you have questions about this flag, contact your Consultant or Client Advocate.

For clients who assign all devices in Assignment Manager, the application loads device data for the current shift, the previous day, and the next day. This helps Assignment Manager ensure that new assignments do not overlap. By default, the Load Only Devices for Providers in Partition flag is set to False (disabled) because there is a possibility that these users could make overlapping device assignments if the flag is enabled.

Clients who make all device assignments in another solution, however, do not need this added data. They only need the data for the shift they are viewing. For these clients, Cerner Consultants set the Load Only Devices for Providers in Partition flag to True (that is, they enable it). This setting instructs Assignment Manager to retrieve and display only the device assignment data for the shift on display.
